This is our annual fun trip. It takes place at TMR Scout Reservation-Monticello NY. The Troop will be winter camping in a large cabin, winter hiking, winter activities, and snow tubing.
Going back to Hearst Cabin, which is much more conducive. Let's hope for snow, like last year.
Ideas please? Tubing is for sure. Pizza making contest?
$70.00 per person
Friday: Meet at OLA at 6:30 PM for gear inspection and packing. We aim to leave by 7 PM sharp.
Saturday & Sunday: Wake up early and enjoy breakfast (prepared by adult leaders). Saturday’s plans include a morning hike and an afternoon of snow tubing at Villa Roma from 4:30 PM to 6:00 PM. Sunday morning will feature a visit to the TMR Museum before packing up to head back.
Tubing Waiver: Please remember that the ski area requires a separate waiver in addition to the troop permission form. Be sure to have both completed and submitted before departure.
Activities: Adults are handling the logistics — transportation, meals, and safety — but the fun is up to you! Plan to engage and include everyone. Bring games, snacks, and other supplies to share with your patrol. Using phones is NOT an acceptable activity. Instead, consider bringing cards, board games, skits, or books to keep everyone entertained. Remember, “sharing is caring.”
Sleeping Arrangements: You’ll stay in a warm cabin, but if you’re feeling adventurous and fully prepared, you can sleep outside in a tent. Adults must confirm that you have the proper gear and preparation for cold-weather camping before permitting this challenge.
Be Prepared for Pack Inspection!
Essentials: Ensure you pack proper attire, a backpack, a sleeping bag, mess kits (including a cup), toiletries, sleepwear, water bottle, and other essentials. Don’t forget to prepare skits for the campfire.
Proper Attire: Be ready for cold weather at TMR! We’ll be outdoors most of the time. Dress in layers:
Don’t forget warm gloves, a hat, winter boots, and ski pants. Always have a backup pair of shoes in case yours get wet. Keep in mind, extremities (hands, feet, and head) are most at risk of cold exposure. Prevention is key to avoiding the need for first aid.
At all times (except while sleeping), scouts should wear Class A or Class B uniforms. Class A is required for travel.
Return: We'll head back to OLA on Sunday. While the exact return time is unpredictable, scouts will contact parents during the drive home.
