Plan

Friday: Meet at OLA at 6:30 PM to pack the cars and leave at 7 PM.

Saturday: Wake up and eat breakfast (all food will be cooked by the adults) and do whatever we have planned for the day, which includes a day hike and snow tubing. Tubing this weekend at Big Bear ski mountain will take place this Saturday from 10 am - 12 pm. As you know, the ski area requires a separate waiver in addition to the trip permission form from the troop. The waiver must be completed online by a parent or guardian over the age of 18. It can be found under the packing heading

Sunday: Wake up pack and leave. In addition, starting at 10 AM there will be a session for the Horsemanship Merit Badge at Rolling Stone Ranch for whoever decided to sign up. The waiver can be found under the packing heading

The trip will be a cabin camping trip very similar to the fun trip we had last year, so no need to bring a tent (Unless you want a challenge and to sleep outside). Also, since this is a fun trip, the adults will be the ones cooking.

The main goal of the trip is to have fun so not much can be earned, you can however try and get some requirements signed off, also if you are interested you might be able to earn the Totin Chip. (Please let our SM you are interested)

Here is the guide for said Totin chip.

Historian's notes

Note 1

Our troop went on a fun trip last weekend, which was 2/17-2/19. First of all, we left on the evening of February 17th on Friday. After two and a half hours' drive, we finally reached our cabin. It was about 11.30 when we got there, so we were ready for bed the first night. The next day, Saturday, February 18, we got up and had breakfast and went to Ski Big Bear on Masthope Mountain to play on the snow tube. The snow tube this time was much more interesting than the previous ones. We loved and enjoyed the snow tube. It was nearly noon after the snow tubing, so we drove to the Zane Grey Museum and the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River Store. We had cup noodles and homemade sandwiches at the museum entrance. Then we went to the museum, where we learned about Zane Grey, and we learned something about hawks. (We saw eagles on our way to Ski Big Bear at Masthope Mountain). It was nearly two o'clock after the museum visit. We retired to the cabin to rest. When we got back, we played Smash Bros and Mario Cart on the Nintendo Switch. After that, it was time for dinner, and we had a wonderful meal of grilled chicken and steak, all of this should be thanks to our Mr. G. W. (and happy birthday to him). After a delicious dinner, we had a campfire like we do on every trip. After a night It was Sunday, 2/19, and we arrived early in the morning at Rolling Stone Ranch, where we completed our horsemanship merit badges. We also cleaned stalls and groomed horses, but most importantly we learned how to ride, which was a lot of fun. With that, we were back in Brooklyn, and the fun trip was over.

Note 2

Last weekend was the annual winter fun trip! Unlike usual trips, the scouts got to relax in a cabin while the adults made food. The cabin was spacious and had many bunkbeds for the scouts and adults to sleep on. On Saturday, the scouts got to have fun snow tubing at a skiing mountain and visited the Zane Gray museum. After that, the scouts played Smash Bros and Mario Cart on the Nintendo Switch. On Sunday, we visited Rolling Stone Ranch in order to learn more about horses and to get the horsemanship merit badge. We learned how to clean horses, clean the poop out of the horse stalls (yuck), and control and ride the horses. The horse that I rode was named Scout, which was very fitting! Personally, my favorite part of the trip was learning how to care and ride horses. Overall, I was a incredibly fun trip and I would definitely go next year. I also want to give a huge thanks to the adults for planning the trip and cooking for the scouts.
