Activities and opportunities
We will camp out at Schodack State Park on the first night of the trip. On the second day, we plan on visiting the Underground Railroad Education Center as well as doing service there, this isn't the first time our troop will be going there and it is great to return and help out once again. That night we will spend on the USS Slater destroyer in Albany NY and have a tour of it the next morning, this is also not the first time we have visited the Slater since we visited it already in the fall of 2019.
This trip is a good opportunity to get service hours as well as, possibly, get requirements done for rank advancement and certain merit badges.
Our troop went on an Albany/Slater trip last week (11/11-11/13). First we drove to Albany in four hours. The weather was very bad that day, with heavy fog and rain. We also enjoyed pizza that night. That night the rain was so heavy that many people were woken by the sound of the rain and the tent was soaked, but glad we survived. By the next morning, our respective patrols had cooked separate breakfasts of fried eggs and Casen's ground beef and eggs. We had breakfast and cleaned up than left. So we went to Empire State Plaza, where we visited the New York State Museum and a lot of buildings. We also had lunch here and then went to the Stephen and Harriet Myers Residence where we did some volunteer work and learned about history. After that, we went to the uss slater, our last night's residence, where we visited the slater, had dinner, played poker and hide and seek, stayed the night at the slater and drove back early in the morning.
