On Monday, January 20, 2025, Troop 23 continues its annual tradition of honoring Martin Luther King Jr.’s legacy by engaging in community service. This special day is an opportunity to give back, aligning with the purpose behind the holiday. This year, we will lend our efforts to the stunning and historic Conference House Park in Tottenville, Staten Island.
Nestled at the southernmost point of New York State, Conference House Park is a treasure for history and nature enthusiasts alike. The park features four historic buildings—the Conference House, Biddle House, Ward House, and Rutan-Beckett House — which collectively showcase Staten Island’s rich history spanning three centuries.
This picturesque park, located along the Arthur Kill coast where it meets Raritan Bay, is known for its clay bluffs formed by the receding Wisconsin Glacier 10,000 years ago. The Conference House, built circa 1680, holds historical significance as the site of a peace conference on September 11, 1776, in an attempt to end the American Revolution. (If the stars align, we may even get a private tour of this historic landmark!)
This day is more than just a break from school. It’s about serving your community, connecting with history, and working together to preserve the beauty and significance of this location.
Troop 23 is proud to uphold the values of service and community. Let’s honor Dr. King’s legacy with action and make a positive impact!
