Klondike Derby

When and Where

When: February 01, 2025
Timeline: 10:30 am — 4:00 pm

Location: Coney Island, Surf and Stillwell Av

We are excited to announce that Troop 23 will be participating in the Brooklyn District's Annual Klondike Derby! This event promises to be just as rowdy and fun as last year’s derby, where we competed on Coney Island beach and proudly took third place.

The Klondike Derby is packed with challenges, and the events are divided into two categories: Cub Scout pack activities and Boy Scout troop competitions. Each event is scored, so it’s vital to practice and prepare ahead of time to make the most of this exciting day.

Transportation:
The location is the same and is accessible by public transit and car. If you’re driving, limited parking will be available near the event site. Carpooling is strongly encouraged—reach out to your patrol leaders or fellow scouts to coordinate rides.

Conditions:
It’s the heart of winter, and all activities will be outdoors, so come fully prepared for the cold and wind. Dress in layers, and don’t forget your Scout Essentials, such as extra clothing, gloves, a hat, hydration, snacks, and lunch. Let’s be ready for anything and represent Troop 23 with spirit and enthusiasm!

Dress Code

Plan for the weather accordingly. Scouts will need to dress for an outdoor winter activity. Good outdoor clothing, such as warm coats, hats, gloves,
long johns (thermal underwear), multiple pairs of socks, waterproof boots, rain gear (if necessary), etc... should be worn. Be prepared for the cold! Dress in layers,
keeping in mind that layers can be removed (if you’re hot) or added (if you’re cold). Scouts will not be allowed to participate in sneakers or improper clothing.

To prepare for the event our troop will need to work together to pack the necessary supplies for the contest. These supplies are split into two parts, necessary ones for which you get points and optional ones with aren't needed but are preferred to have.
