Location: Coney Island, Surf and Stillwell Av
We have a confirmed rowdy and fun group of scouts for Brooklyn District's Annual Klondike Derby on Coney Island beach. It's still not too late. Get in on the (local) action.
The events in the derby are separated into two groups, the Cub Scout pack events, and the Boy Scout troop events. Each event is scored so it is crucial to practice and review all of the ones we will be participating in beforehand.
Transportation: This location is very accessible by train. Numerous trains go to Coney Island - Stillwell Avenue Station. If you plan to drive, there will be reserved parking just off the beach but it is limited. If possible and practical, reach out to a fellow scout to carpool.
Conditions: It's winter and activities will be held outside with no wind break. Please please Be Prepared and dress appropriately. Think about Scout Essentials. (e.g. extra clothing, gloves, hat, hydration, snacks, lunch, etc.)
Plan for the weather accordingly. Scouts will need to dress for an outdoor winter activity. Good outdoor clothing, such as warm coats, hats, gloves,
long johns (thermal underwear), multiple pairs of socks, waterproof boots, rain gear (if necessary), etc... should be worn. Be prepared for the cold! Dress in layers,
keeping in mind that layers can be removed (if you’re hot) or added (if you’re cold). Scouts will not be allowed to participate in sneakers or improper clothing.
To prepare for the event our troop will need to work together to pack the necessary supplies for the contest. These supplies are split into two parts, necessary ones for which you get points and optional ones with aren't needed but are preferred to have.
